Council votes for GLUAS

The City Council voted unanimously to make trams the preferred option for improving public transport. The GLUAS team made a presentation advocating trams, privately funded at no cost to the Council. They were followed by the Director of Transportation and MVA Consultants arguing in favour of busways costing the Council at least €150million. and not operating before 2020.

On 8th March 2010 the Council had unanimously voted to support GLUAS in Principle. On the morning of the Council meeting on 8th March the Director of Transportation invited the GLUAS team to meet. After a long meeting the GLUAS team were told not to say that if busways were built there would never be a tramway. They did not need to say that, as many of the Councillors had already figured that out. The Council also voted that there should be a partnership with GLUAS to get the sustainable tramway up and running. The GLUAS team made the point that with genuine co-operation, trams could be running in less than 4 years.
